LD Lines to close Dover - Boulogne ferry Ferry re-deployed to new GLD Atlantique
LD Lines has announced the closure of its Dover - Boulogne ferry service from 5 September 2010 but confirm they are considering options to continue the connection with a freight ferry service from 6 September 2010 onwards. An ongoing review of a possible re-structuring of the service, follows a previous announcement of the transfer of one of its two ships from the Dover – Boulogne route, Norman Bridge, to open a new link from Nantes to Gijon (Western France to Northern Spain) from 7 September with GLD Atlantique. LD Lines’ Managing Director, Christophe Santoni, commented “Whilst we are disappointed to have to announce the ending of a tourist passenger service between Dover and Boulogne, as the addition of a second ship has not generated the extra traffic volumes we had hoped for, we will continue to explore every option to try and maintain some form of ferry service to Boulogne.” LD Lines other ferry services - Portsmouth - Le Havre, Newhaven - Dieppe (with Transmanche Ferries) and Ramsgate - Ostend (with Transeuropa Ferries) are operating to schedule as advertised. Customers affected by this route closure will be contacted in due course.
