Stena Line operates Belfast - Liverpool route. In the transition period cooperation with DFDS.
DFDS Seaways has announced the sale of their Belfast services to Birkenhead and Heysham to Stena Line. This will include the terminal operations at all three ports - although DFDS will continue to run their Dublin services from Birkenhead and Heysham as currently. The two ships on the Heysham - Belfast route are included in the sale and Stena Line are to purchase the chartered Lagan Seaways and Mersey Seaways. Although Stena Line has completed its acquisition of DFDS Seaways Irish Sea Ferries, it awaits formal approval from the UK and Irish competition authorities. This means that Stena Line will continue to operate and compete as the independent ferry company Stena Line Irish Sea Ferries until approval has been granted by the competition authorities. Until that time, Stena Line should be regarded as a competitor of SL ISF. As Stena Line Irish Sea Ferries is not fully integrated into the wider Stena Line network, DFDS continues to provide the online booking services.
