Havila Kystruten from 2021 on the Norwegian coastal route
The shipping company Hurtigruten gets from 2021 competition on the Norwegian coast: In the tender of the state-sponsored shipping route from Bergen to Kirkenes - the company that has been driving the route for 125 years - gots 2018 only seven out of 11 departures. Four went to Havila Kystruten, which currently is going to use four new, environmentally friendly ships. The background is the particularly high environmental standards in Norway. "Whether you travel by Hurtigruten or Havila depends on which day you want to travel," said Transport Minister Kjetil Solvik-Olsen. Havila is a Norwegian family business, while former Norwegian Hurtigruten today belongs to the British TDR Capital.
