New Indonesia - Philippines ferry link

In May 2017 Indonesia and the Philippines launched the new ferry link between Davao City - General Santos - Bitung, Indonesia by a Roll-on Roll-off (Roro) service. The new route is seen as a fresh trade and relations opportunity for regions outside of the capital cities of the Philippines and Indonesia and helps to connect two neighbouring islands, the Mindanao with Sulawesi. The route is served by Super Shuttle RoRo once weekly.
Indonesian President Joko Widodo and Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte launching of the new shipping route on Sunday, April 30, 2017 in Sasa, Davao City. The opening of the route is a more economical and more time-efficient alternative to the usual Manila to Jakarta to Bitung route, which would take about three to five weeks of shipping time. In contrast, direct shipping through the Davao-GenSan-Bitung route will take only one and a half days of sailing (excluding port stay).
