FRS will take over ferry lines from Naviera Armas

The routes connecting the ports of Motril with Melilla and Huelva with the Canary Islands have been operated until now by Naviera Armas. FRS Iberia will take over these routes and start its operation beginning of July 2018. The service will start with the ships “Volcan de Tauce” (Motril-Melilla) and “Volcan de Teide” (Huelva-Canary Islands), which belong to the fleet of the shipping company Amras and will be chartered from FRS.
Family-controlled Naviera Armas has been given the green light by the Spanish competition authoritiy in May 2018 to take full control of Trasmediterranea, Spain’s premier ferry operator in which it already held a minority stake following the company’s 2002 privatisation to Acciona. To obtain the commission's approval of the takeover, Naviera Armas has had to agree to sell three major services to third-party FRS Iberia (Germany owned). Naviera Armas has immediately agreed to the takeover package.
