Passenger ferry services between Jersey and Guernsey have been suspended after a major engine failure on the MV San Pawl. Operator Islands Unlimited has cancelled all scheduled sailings up to and including 10 September while repairs and technical assessments are carried out.
The problem involves the vessel’s starboard main engine and occurred shortly before the final weekend of August. Islands Unlimited initially expected the disruption to last until 6 September, but has since extended the cancellations. In its latest service update, the operator says it is working to resolve the problem and restore services.
The San Pawl operates the passenger connection between the two Channel Islands. Passengers booked on cancelled sailings will receive an automatic refund to their original payment method. The company says customers do not need to take any action to receive the refund.
It is not yet clear when the ferry will return to service. Islands Unlimited plans to provide another update before the end of the week for passengers booked from 11 September onwards. The operator will then confirm whether those sailings can operate or whether further cancellations will be necessary.
