Moby Lines is an Italian ferry operator serving routes between mainland Italy, Sardinia, Corsica and the island of Elba. Its network combines year-round passenger and vehicle services with strongly seasonal routes that operate mainly during the spring and summer.

Current Moby ferry network
Moby’s current passenger network is concentrated in the western Mediterranean, particularly between ports on the Italian mainland and the islands of Sardinia, Corsica and Elba.
The structure of the network varies by destination. Sardinia includes both year-round and seasonal longer-distance crossings, while the Corsica network is more strongly seasonal. Elba is served by short crossings from the Tuscan mainland.
Moby is commercially associated with Tirrenia and Toremar, and their services are presented together through the Moby booking platform. FerryLines treats the individual operating brands separately where this is relevant to identifying the operator of a specific route.

Sardinia ferry services
Sardinia is one of the main parts of the Moby network. The operator connects the island with mainland Italy through routes serving Olbia in north-eastern Sardinia.
Livorno-Olbia operates throughout the year and provides a direct passenger, vehicle and freight connection between Tuscany and Sardinia. Moby also operates Genoa-Olbia during the main travel season, providing an important link between northern Italy and the island.
The Moby booking network also includes Sardinia routes operated under the Tirrenia brand. These should not automatically be described as Moby-operated routes simply because they are sold through the same website.
Corsica ferry services
Moby operates seasonal ferry connections between mainland Italy and Bastia in northern Corsica.
The principal 2026 routes are Livorno-Bastia and Genoa-Bastia. These services are aimed at passenger and vehicle traffic and operate primarily during the spring and summer season rather than throughout the year.
Moby also connects Corsica directly with Sardinia across the Strait of Bonifacio. The Santa Teresa Gallura-Bonifacio crossing is much shorter than the mainland-Corsica routes and forms a useful regional link between the two islands.
Elba ferry services
Moby also operates in the Tuscan Archipelago, where short ferry crossings connect Piombino on the Italian mainland with Portoferraio on Elba.
The Elba network is also served by Toremar, another operator presented through the same booking platform. Some routes and departures are therefore operated by Toremar rather than Moby, making the operating brand important when describing individual services.
These short crossings have a different role from Moby’s longer Sardinia and Corsica services, providing frequent island access rather than overnight or long-distance travel.

Moby fleet
Moby operates a mixed fleet ranging from large cruise ferries used on longer Sardinia crossings to smaller vessels suited to shorter island services.

Vessel deployment varies between routes and seasons, so inclusion in the fleet does not mean a ship is permanently assigned to one particular crossing.
Moby Fantasy and Moby Legacy
Moby Fantasy and sister ship Moby Legacy are the largest vessels in the current Moby fleet and represent a major renewal of capacity on the Sardinia network.
Both ships were introduced for the Livorno-Olbia corridor. Each is approximately 237 metres long and is designed to carry around 3,000 passengers together with substantial vehicle and freight capacity.
Their introduction increased capacity on one of Moby’s principal year-round Sardinia routes and made Livorno-Olbia an especially important corridor within the operator’s current network.
Moby, Tirrenia and Toremar
Moby, Tirrenia and Toremar services are marketed together through the Moby website, but the three names remain relevant when identifying which operator or brand provides a particular ferry service.
Tirrenia is associated with longer-distance routes including additional connections between mainland Italy and Sardinia, while Toremar operates an important network serving Elba and other islands in the Tuscan Archipelago.
FerryLines therefore avoids assigning every route shown on the Moby booking platform directly to Moby Lines. Route profiles should identify the carrier shown for the relevant service.
Passenger, vehicle and freight access
Moby’s main services are ro-pax ferries carrying passengers and private vehicles alongside commercial freight. Foot-passenger access is available on many routes, although arrangements can vary by port, route and vessel.
Short island services and large mainland-Sardinia crossings can have very different boarding arrangements and service patterns. Individual route information should therefore state passenger, vehicle and freight access separately where relevant.
Seasonality
Seasonality is an important feature of the Moby network.
Livorno-Olbia is a year-round Moby connection, while Genoa-Olbia operates during the main travel season. The mainland-Corsica routes between Livorno or Genoa and Bastia are also seasonal, with increased ferry activity during spring and summer.
The exact start and end dates of seasonal routes can change from year to year. FerryLines therefore treats published operating periods as route-sensitive information rather than permanent characteristics of a route.
How Moby fits into the Western Mediterranean network
Moby’s network forms part of a larger group of ferry corridors connecting the Italian mainland with Mediterranean islands.
Olbia provides one of the main gateways to Sardinia, while Bastia links Corsica with northern and central Italy. The short Bonifacio-Santa Teresa Gallura route connects the Corsican and Sardinian networks directly, and Piombino provides the mainland gateway to Elba.
This gives Moby a network combining long island-mainland crossings with much shorter regional and island services.
