The current FerryLines port profiles cover several different types of passenger ferry gateway, from high-frequency Baltic capitals to Mediterranean island ports and long-distance North Sea terminals.
- Helsinki – Finland’s main international passenger ferry port, with services towards Tallinn, Stockholm and Germany.
- Tallinn – Estonia’s principal international passenger port and one end of the high-frequency Helsinki-Tallinn corridor.

Ports, routes and operators
A ferry port is part of a wider network of routes, operators and regions. FerryLines connects these permanent pages so that readers can move between the different parts of the ferry network.
In the Baltic, Helsinki and Tallinn sit at opposite ends of the Helsinki-Tallinn ferry route, while Stockholm and Turku form part of the wider Sweden-Finland passenger network.
In northern Europe, Hirtshals and Kristiansand are linked by the Hirtshals-Kristiansand ferry route, while Bergen extends the same Denmark-Norway network farther along the Norwegian west coast.
In the Western Mediterranean, Barcelona and Palma are linked by the Barcelona-Palma ferry route, one of the core connections in the Balearic Islands ferry network.
On the North Sea, Hook of Holland forms the Dutch endpoint of the Harwich-Hook of Holland ferry route, while IJmuiden provides a separate passenger gateway towards northeast England.

Passenger ports and freight-only services
Not every port handling ferries provides ordinary passenger services. Some routes and terminals are intended mainly or entirely for commercial freight, while others may accept passengers only when travelling with a vehicle.
FerryLines does not classify a port or route as passenger-accessible unless this can be confirmed. Foot-passenger, vehicle and freight access are therefore treated separately where necessary.
Freight-only, proposed, suspended and discontinued services are also kept separate from active passenger ferry connections.
Different types of ferry port
Ferry ports can have very different roles within the network.
Some, such as Helsinki and Barcelona, contain several passenger terminals serving different operators and destinations. Others, such as Hirtshals, act as international gateways where several long-distance routes converge.
Ports such as Palma and Turku are important island or regional gateways, while Hook of Holland and IJmuiden are focused more strongly on individual long-distance North Sea corridors.
Smaller or more seasonal ports such as Agios Konstantinos can have a network role that changes considerably during the year.
Individual FerryLines port profiles therefore focus on the actual network role of each port rather than applying the same description to every ferry terminal.

Port profiles are checked against current ferry operator information, port authority sources and other primary sources where available. Route status, passenger access, terminals and operator information can change over time and are reviewed separately for each port.
FerryLines distinguishes active passenger services from seasonal, freight-only, proposed, suspended and discontinued connections. Each route-sensitive port profile includes its own visible last-checked date.
